Interfaith Encounters - General Study Sessions

Launch of Acre Interfaith Encounter - 18th Ongoing Group of the Interfaith Encounter Association - 28th January 2007:

Promoting Coexistence in Acre

An encounter first of its kind for the promotion of dialogue between Jews and Arabs took place on Sunday January 28th at the Chamber of the Mayor Mr. Shimon Lankri.

The Mayor greeted the participants, among them: Rabbi Yosef Yashar, Chief Rabbi of Acre and Region; Member of Knesset Sheikh Abas Zakur; Vice-Mayor Mr. Zeev Noiman and Vice-Mayor Mr. Osama Gizawi.

This was the first encounter in a series of encounters initiated by members of the Interfaith Encounter Association that calls upon people of all faiths, and from all parts of the political spectrum, to hold encounters and always strive for developing models of understanding, tolerance and mutual respect.

It was agreed by all that Acre was always a model of joint life and even gained international recognition for that.

The encounter was broadcasted in the local Internet TV Akkonet:

The second encounter is planned for February 25th. We intend to widen the forum of participants and include representatives of all religions, including Christians, Druze and Bahai. The public is welcome to join.
